The Kurek boys stand with a giant “snowman” on the farm at Christmas Trees of Vermont, opening this season under the new ownership of the Kurek farming family. SPRINGFIELD — Christmas Trees of Vermont will open for the 2017 holiday season on Nov. 24 and run through Dec. 17 under new ownership. The Kurek family is excited to carry on the tradition of “Choose & Cut” Fraser fir trees that families have come to enjoy for decades at their beautiful tree farm along the Connecticut River on Route 5 in Springfield. The Kureks are an experienced farming family, and this year’s crop of trees is beautiful and plentiful with some trees over 9 feet tall. Matt and Maggie Kurek come from a farming background and have more than 20 years of experience as commercial vegetable growers. They are very excited to have found such an historic farm with deep silt and sandy loam soils in a beautiful spot between the river and a mountain. The high-quality, well draining soil makes it possible to grow lush, full Fraser Fir trees, and the level fields make for a comfortable experience for people choosing their favorite tree. They look forward to meeting and welcoming back the families who have made Christmas Trees of Vermont a part of their own family holiday traditions, according to a press release. The kids also helped build a new “snowman” on the farm this year. Tim Mollica is still helping on the farm, just like in past years. Families will still enjoy free wagon rides on the famous Jolly Trolley or Fire wagon, and their trees can ride back in on the hay wagons. The trees will be baled for free, and free boughs are available while they last. The Christmas cottage will be open with two restrooms and two fireplaces to warm up and enjoy baked goods, popcorn and hot chocolate from the Springfield Humane Society for a donation. There will be free visits with Santa the first three weekends from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Once again people can enjoy karaoke with Santa, singing their favorite Christmas songs and posting clips on social media. The farm will be open 7 days a week, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., and both “Choose & Cut" and daily pre-cut Fraser fir trees will be available as well as an assortment of wreaths.
