Vermont Vines on the River wine tasting at Christmas Trees of Vermont November 20, 2017 wine Sampling wine by Vermont Vines by the River. Photo provided SPRINGFIELD, Vt. – Vermont Vines on the River vineyard and winery will be back at Christmas Trees of Vermont again this year after a great year at local festivals. They will be sampling wine made from grapes grown in Vermont river valleys including along the Connecticut River in Springfield where the Christmas tree farm is. This is a great opportunity to buy from local farmers for the holidays, both a Vermont Christmas tree and a bottle of wine to share on Christmas day, for a very Merry Christmas! Starting Thanksgiving weekend until season end, every weekend from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Vermont Vines on the River will be at Christmas Trees of Vermont, which is a choose-and-cut and pre-cut Fraser Fir tree farm on a historic plantation on Route 5. Customers can ride wagons out to find their trees, and once cut, travel back with the trees to be bailed. The tasting table is set up in the Christmas cottage next to the hot chocolate and across from the fireplace, an ideal place for the whole family to warm up before or after finding their Fraser Fir Christmas tree and wreath. The wine is made from grapes grown in the valley right next to the Christmas trees which adds to the Yuletide cheer. It is a beautiful setting for a holiday adventure that the whole family will enjoy. Vermont Vines on the River is a small family winery, owned and operated by the Harriman family who are local to Springfield and also have vines growing along the Williams River in Rockingham. Family and friends helped plant the original vines and still help every year in the harvesting of grapes. Tastings will be offered by Stacy and her mother this year. There will be both red and white wines to taste and purchase by the glass or bottle. The wines are from cold hardy grapes developed by the University of Minnesota and Cornell University. There are 6 red and 6 white grape varieties some of which are Marquette & St. Croix for reds, and Prairie Star and St. Pepin for whites. Come sample some locally grown and produced wine, get a Christmas tree, have a holiday adventure and make memories to last a life time. Christmas Trees of Vermont is located 3 miles off exit 7I-01 on Rte. 5, 978 Connecticut River Rd. in Springfield, Vt. And will be open for the season on Nov. 24.
