The Association of Springfield Area Churches has been sponsoring a Blue Christmas worship service since 2008. In the past it has been held at the First Congregational Church. This year it will be at the United Methodist Church on Thursday, Dec. 21 at 7 p.m. It is important for those who are grieving the loss of loved ones to have the opportunity to take time at Christmas to celebrate their lost loved ones. With all the holiday activities and celebrations, some find a hard time participating because they just don’t feel that happy. The long nights of winter amplify our emotions and so this special worship service is held on the longest night of the year. The Blue Christmas worship service provides an opportunity to celebrate the lives of loved ones by lighting candles, listening to music, and reflecting on the gift that their lives has been to us. The worship service will be hosted by Rev. Gerry Piper and Rev. George Keeler. Area clergy and lay leaders who would like to participate in leading this service of worship can contact Rev. Piper. All are invited to join us.
