2017-12-06 / Springfield Retired corporal to discuss experience as a transgender woman SPRINGFIELD — In honor of the recent Transgender Day of Remembrance, commemorated each year on Nov. 20, the Springfield UU Church will sponsoring a worship service on Sunday, Dec. 10 with a guest speaker. The speaker will be Grace Alden, a retired corporal from the Lebanon, New Hampshire Police Department, who will talk about her experience as a transgender woman. Transgender people are victims of hate violence at a higher rate per capita than any other demographic group in the United States. The political and social environment has changed significantly in the past decade, all according to a press release from the Springfield UU Church. Alden will share about the process of transition, and the trials and triumphs trans persons encounter. Alden is a member of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the Upper Valley in Norwich, Vermont, where her spouse, Sparrow J. Alden, is the Credentialed Religious Educator. They have two children. The service will be held at the church at 21 Fairground Rd, Springfield All welcome. A tree decorating will take place after the service.
