Springfield Senior Center news January 18, 2018 I’m BACK! I want to take a quick moment to say THANK YOU to everyone who covered for me while I was away traveling to South Africa. Thanks to Wanda Blanchard, Sandy George, Linda Wilson, Judy Bastille, Brenda Neronsky, Carol Peebles, Barb Bodine, Betty Perkins, Linda Roys, Lynne Stearns, Sandi Tarbell, Don Gray, Vickie Lucius and Cathy Honeywell. I also want to extend a huge THANK YOU to Terri Emerson who stepped out of retirement to help out the Christmas Party and writing the weekly newspaper articles. Without the help of everyone here at the center, I wouldn’t have been able to have an amazing trip abroad. The support of everyone here truly shows how much of a “family” we really are! Is it becoming that time of the year where you’re starting to get cabin fever and restless with the cold weather? Join the Springfield Senior Center as they travel to the Mohegan Sun Casino on Tuesday, Feb. 27. The bus will be departing from the Springfield Park and Ride at 8 a.m. and returning at approximately 8 p.m. There are currently a handful of spots open — if you’re interested in joining us, the tickets are $45 each and include a $15 free bet, $15 lunch/ shopping voucher and driver gratuity. To claim your spot, please call Heather at the Springfield Senior Center. If you’re starting to think about the type of trips you’d like to take this year, join the Springfield Senior Center on Wednesday, Jan. 24 at 1 p.m. to learn all the important details about the day and overnight trips that are going to be taking place this year. You will find out which trips were voted in, when they are taking place, cost of each trip and the dates to sign up for each of them. The Springfield Senior Center will be taking two large trips next year. The first trip being offered will be in June and is a Cruise to Canada with Norwegian Cruise Lines. The second large trip being offered is a trip to Ireland in November. With many stops all around the country and a fascinating itinerary, it’s sure to be the trip of a lifetime. If you’re interested in learning more about either of the trips, please speak with Heather at the senior center. AARP will be at the Springfield Senior Center again to assist individuals with completing their taxes, for free. Schedules for the appointment slots should arrive this upcoming week- please call the Senior Center to see about setting up an appointment today. Appointments will be given on a first-come, first-served basis. If you’re interested in learning how to play shuffleboard, please call the Springfield Senior Center. We will be planning a time for people to come in and see how the game is played. We also have space with some great ladies if you’re interested in playing Whist! Never played before? Well, that’s no problem — they will teach you how the game works! This is the perfect time of year to get out and meet new people, especially with all the cold and snow keeping us to our homes a little more. If you have any questions about anything above, please reach out to Executive Director Heather Hall at either (802) 885-3933 or heatherhallssc@gmail.com.
