ReplyDeleteWake up. This accurately illustrates what Springfield has become and the best we have to offer. The options are only worse. This, and academic ranking are evidence enough any responsible parent is a fool to enroll their child in Springfield's school system.

She needs angry management classes and learn some sportsmanship! She is a coach to young girls, 5-6th grade girls, she should be setting an example and show respect and sportsmanship and not fly off the handle like this. This is not the first time either! She needs to be removed! No apology should be accepted. She tried to apologize on a Facebook post but it wasnt much of an apology! Kick her to the curb! Those girls and their parents do not need someone with this kind of attitude teaching these kids! Sports at that age should be fun and a learning experience, not a yelling match with an attitude attached!

DeleteWhoever hired her, Parks and Rec or school district, needs to replace her with someone who displays more self-control and role-model qualities. At this juncture of their lives these girls need to learn and embrace the basics and values of good sportsmanship.....the best reason for young athletes to participate in team sports. It's about learning discipline, respect, self-control and playing by the rules, which will set them up for success beyond athletics.

My name is Kiki and I am a parent of one player, an aunt to one player and second mom to a few of them as well as their assistant coach. I am and will stand proud to say I am best friend of Kristen. She puts her heart and soul into making these girls the best that they can be. I myself had school teachers who used a yard stick to knock your knuckles for a wrong answer or a slap upside the back of the head for a wise crack and a few coaches that out right said things that made me mad. Today those teachers would probably be fired and the coaches would be on Facebook. All those role models made me into a successful student, athlete and the parent I am today. Under no circumstances would I pull my daughter off Kristen's team nor would she want to be. For all you who want to play judge and jury you can apply at the Vermont law school. I have my pre-law degree so I am all set. For those that did not see the game but only the brief video shame on your for judging a book by its cover. The refs were being very one sided and our girls were being hurt. It wasn't about winning or losing. Might I add that a few parents were yelling just prior to Kristen yelling at the refs. In fact they were yelling the same stuff. They too were threatened with being thrown out of the game.
ReplyDeleteI've always believed that school sports do more to promote provincialism and tribalism than "teamwork." This coach is a classic example of this. When beating the other town's team becomes more important than education, civility, and positive role modeling, our children learn that it's only important to "beat the other," and not how to function in a larger society. Notice how this is playing out in our politics and culture today. It's really sick, and it needs to stop!

ReplyDeleteParks and Rec has had a lot of great coaches that do not get paid. While you could also say that some coaches who get paid aren’t so good as well. Most people that volunteer their time do it for the kids and not themselves, this coach seems to have some major issues and should be removed immediately. If she can’t control her emotions, especially at this level then she has some growing up to do. She also put down her own child in front of fans, what does this have to say? I can only imagine what goes on behind closed doors if she behaves this way in public. At this age kids need to learn good sportsmanship, rules..etc..etc. Refs make calls that not everyone will agree on, but that happens at all levels and her behavior demonstrated to her team poor leadership. Hopefully she will be removed.

DeleteIts been a few since I had kids that age, but I remember Windsor being a tough place to play...the kids were good, and the refs were biased. Having said that, a coach absolutely needs to control themselves. But I can see emotions getting out of control in the environment that is a Windsor/Springfield youth game.
ReplyDeleteThe person that shot this video only got what Springfield coach did not what the ref did or the other team did the the Springfield girls. The Springfield girls left with bruises all over them but yet the coach stating what was done wrong is the highlight of everyone's talk. Think about it what if it was ur child that ended up with a black eye...
ReplyDeleteThis is complete b.s this needs to be taken of the internet. The woman in this video is amazing in every way and has dedicated herself for three years to help coach for Springfield. I would pay to have her as my child's coach.

ReplyDeleteI can certainly understand the frustration. Windsor is good, but they are dirty players and most calls are wrongfully in their favor. This coach here, however, needs to learn some coping skills.
ReplyDeleteThere is no excuse for this behavior from a coach or an adult in front of the kids or the audience. Just makes Springfield look worse then it already does.

My guess is no. I am a parent of a player on this team, and was present at this game. This was not about winning or losing. This was about allowing the girls to play a fair, safe game. Yes, she may have let her emotions get the best of her, and yes, it probably could have been handled better; however, she is human. She made a mistake, has publicly apologized, and also apologized to her team.
She is the best coach my daughter has ever had. She is passionate, cares an incredible amount for all these kids, and she pushes and encourages them to be the best they can be.
Shame on all you who are judging her based on a small video clip, and shame on you Springfield Blog for posting this nonsense and contributing to the drama!
