ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? Finish strong? I believe the current losing streak is almost 60 over 4 seasons. I'm not sure Springfield cares any more about winning.
ReplyDeleteAnother misleading article by Bill Murphy. NO team has to finish strong to qualify for the playoffs. Vermont has an open policy which allows ALL teams to play, regardless of their record. I am surprised Murphy, a former high school coach and self-proclaimed sports "expert," isn't aware of that.
ReplyDeleteThis is not true. Not every team qualifies.
DeleteAccording to VPA for 2017-2018 basketball season....."To qualify for postseason play, a team must have played a minimum of twelve games. The first three
Deletegames of a regularly scheduled series with any one opponent, and no more than three opponents, are all
that will be counted, unless principals of the competing schools have agreed upon which three games
shall be counted, and should so inform the Basketball Committee through the Executive Director."
3:52, I'm hate to break it to you but 7:07's statement is definitely true. Any team that plays a minimum of twelve games is eligible for postseason play, regardless of the number of wins or losses they have.
DeleteThere was a time long ago when a team was required to have at least 8 wins in a 20 game season but those rules haven't applied for a long, long time. Last year, Chelsea was the 16th seed in VT D-4 boys play with a 2-18 record. Leland & Gray qualified for D-3 tournament play with a 3-17 record, and Vergennes played in the D-2 tourney with a 4-16 record. Two years ago, Stowe played in the D-3 tourney with ONE win. The list is endless. Do some research.
Personally I think it's a waste of resources to take an 0-20 team to post-season play-offs. I like the 40% win-rule.
