SPRINGFIELD, Vt. — Sofia Gulick of Springfield High School, representing Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 771 in Springfield, Vermont, won the Vermont Department of Veterans of Foreign Wars Voice of Democracy Essay contest held Jan. 20 at the VFW in Middlebury, Vermont. Gulick competed with other high school students in Vermont with the winning essay on the “American History: Our Hope for the Future” theme. Gulick was awarded a $1000 scholarship by the Vermont VFW Department and an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C., in early March, where she will be competing with essay contest winners from all other VFW state winners.
