Mayor has written 28 bestselling Joe Gunther novels. Over the past 30 years, he has worked variously (or continues to work) as a firefighter/EMT, a police officer and a death investigator for Vermont’s Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. A Yale graduate, scholar, editor, researcher, photographer, Mayor has also worked as a political advance man and a medical illustrator. Archer recently received the Robert B. Parker Award, named for “the dean of mystery writers.” He is a winner of the Vermont Governor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts. The New York Times calls Archer Mayor “The boss man on procedures.”
In his latest book, Trace, The Vermont Bureau of Investigation (VBI) has been pulled onto three cases at the same time; meanwhile, VBI head Joe Gunther has to take time off to care for his ailing mother. Those cases are now in the hands of the individual investigators. In cases that lead the team all over Vermont and nearby, Mayor once again shows why his novels featuring Joe Gunther and the VBI team are among the finest crime fiction today.
