Windsor's Seth Balch takes a hack during the second inning on Wednesday. Balch had three runs-scored to help the Yellow Jackets win big, 19-2 over Springfield. Kameron Towle Windsor baseball welcomed the Cosmos to WHS on Wednesday, scoring early and often to run away to a blowout win, 19-2. Seth Balch got the offense started for the Yellow Jackets, knocking in a run on a full-count in a first inning where Windsor put up five runs. The Yellow Jackets then plated two runs in the second and seven runs in the third inning, highlighted by singles from Dakota Page, Robert Slocum, Adam Stapleton, and Ben Meagher, and a Duncan Frazer walk. They piled on five more in the bottom of the fourth, highlighted by a 2 RBI-double from Slocum, and RBI- singles from Justin Smith, Stapleton, and Elijah Collier. Slocum played big for the Yellow Jackets Wednesday both at the plate and on the mound. He was unstoppable with runners on base as he drove in four runs on two hits. On the hill, Slocum grabbed the win after going four innings, allowing one run and racking up seven strikeouts. Ryland Richardson relieved Slocum and threw one inning, giving up one run. Richardson also led Windsor with two stolen bases. Adam Stokarski took the loss for Springfield on the mound. He allowed one hit and seven runs over two innings. Joseph Lake went 1-for-1 for the Cosmos on offense. Windsor had 10 hits throughout the game, led by Slocum and Stapleton with two each. The Yellow Jackets were moving baserunners all afternoon, as they drew 13 walks and stole 7 bases. Windsor head coach, Jamie Richardson, on the win, said, “I think we played okay. Springfield had trouble obviously throwing strikes. They helped us out a lot. One thing I really looked at is our kids didn’t just sit on a lead… they were still aggressive… they were still enthusiastic. So that’s the main thing I look at… we didn’t get passive. Pitchers threw well… we got everybody in the game, so that’s a good thing… we’re 3-0… so I can’t complain.” Springfield will try to bounce back at home against Burr & Burton on Friday at 4:30 p.m. Windsor returns to action hosting Woodstock on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
