Cosmos softball explodes for 26-3 win over Otter Valley Christopher Shaban Sports May 1, 2018 Updated May 1, 2018 0 Crosby Hannah Crosby picked up the win for the Cosmos in Tuesday's 26-3 explosion over Otter Valley. Christopher Shaban Jasinski Springfield catcher Mykahla Jasinski gladly took a walk to reach the bases as her Comso team had a big day, winning 26-3. Christopher Shaban Springfield- Springfield erupted for 12 runs in the bottom of the second and that was all Hannah Crosby would need as she pitched a strong over-powering game for the win, defeating Otter Valley 26-3. As Crosby was hitting the strike zone routinely against the visitors, the home team was patient grabbing walks all day long, especially Cosmos shortstop Madee Stagner, who scored 5 runs all starting with a free pass. After a scoreless first inning, Stagner started the 2nd inning with her first of 5 walks on the day and by the time freshman Molly Leonard stepped to the plate for the second time in the inning, the Cosmos were leading 9-0. Leonard collected the first Cosmo hit of the day by smashing a blast over the right fielders head for a bases clearing, 3-RBI triple. “I love to hit and I got a pitch that I got a good swing on,” said Leonard after the game. The visitors managed to scratch out a run in the top of the 3rd inning but the Cosmos kept the hit-parade alive, adding 14 more runs as singles came from all parts of the order for Springfield. Ashley Chamberlain and Jenna Veysey both had 2 singles each, while Laura Wentworth and Crosby each had hits today also. Springfield head coach, Andy Bladayka, was glad to be playing on his home field today. “The weather hasn’t been kind to us yet and playing the likes of undefeated Brattleboro and Mt. Anthony on the road was a really tough way to open the season… but today we put together a good solid team effort with all aspects of the game”. The Cosmos were sharp in the field as well as at the plate, as strong plays kept Otter Valley from being any scoring threat Tuesday. Jesie Fisher made a nice catch late in the game and Stagner along with 2nd baseman Veysey kept the visitors in check on the bases, while Mykahla Jasinski was a rock behind the dish all day. “I felt good today and with great fielding behind me and a strong offensive attack at the plate, I just wanted to do my job on the mound today” said Crosby after the game.
