Cosmos softball rolls past visiting Hartford, 17-7 Kameron Towle Sports Stagner Springfield's Madee Stagner up at the plate in the Cosmos' dominant win on Wednesday night over Hartford, 17-7. Kameron Towle SPRINGFIELD- Springfield softball opened up with four runs in the first innings, five more in the second, and four more in the third for an early 13-4 lead, and would use this advantage to coast through the rest of the game, beating the Hartford Hurricanes 17-7 on Wednesday night. With a 4-0 advantage in the bottom of the second inning, Springfield’s Mykahla Jasinski delivered a big 2-RBI triple to go up 6-0. Madee Stagner followed up with an RBI-single that plated Jasinski. After a single from Laura Wentworth, Hailey Rabtoy had an RBI-single and then Jenna Veysey knocked in another to give the Cosmos a 9-0 lead after two. The Cosmos surrendered four runs in the top of the third, but struck right back in the bottom-half. Julianna Albero-Levings hit an RBI-double, Jasinski knocked in a run with a single to center, and Stagner had a 2-RBI single to go up 13-4. In the bottom of the fourth, Wentworth had a two-out, 2-RBI single to right to give the Cosmos a 15-4 lead. Although Springfield would be outscored over the final two innings, they had built a big enough lead to grab the home victory, 17-7. Cosmos head coach, Andy Bladyka, on the win, said, “We came out really swinging the bats well up and down the lineup, and that’s exactly what we had talked about as a team in the pre-game huddle. Hannah Crosby (pitcher) and Mykahla Jasinski (catcher) worked really well together tonight, but we still have to keep working hard in practice to tighten up our defense.” At the plate for Springfield, Crosby was 4-4, Ashley Chamberlain was 2-2, and Stagner, Wentworth, and Rabtoy each contributed two hits.
