Springfield Senior Center news

On Wednesday, May 30, come to the Springfield Senior Center at 1 p.m. for our 2018 Senior of the Year event. Here, you will find out whom you voted to be our 2018 Senior of the Year. Light refreshments will be provided and many congratulations given.


Then, on Thursday, May 31, join us at the Springfield Meals and Wheels location for a special luncheon to honor our 2018 Senior of the Year. Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m.

At 1 p.m. on Friday, May 1, there will be game day at the Senior Center.

This last Wednesday, the Springfield Senior Center hosted “The Ukulaliens,” a ukulele group with some of our own members to include Mike Wooten, Cindy Wooten, Priscilla Lindberg and Bryce Honeywell. They performed for us and it was wonderful. Thank you to the following people who brought in snacks to share: Cathy Honeywell, Sandi Tarbell, Debbie Smith, Anne Stocker, Carol Peebles, Judy Bastille, Mario Gattorna, Linda Wilson, Linda Roys, Mike Wooten, Pat Marcotte and Judy Greene.

If you have signed up for the Cruise to Canada, please arrive to the Springfield Park and Ride at Exit 7 at 6:30 a.m. Saturday, June 2. The bus will promptly leave at 7 a.m. Make sure to remember all your cruise documents, including your passport.

Trips available with the Senior Center:

"The Bobby Rydell Show, Live in Concert:" Travel to the Venus De Milo in Swansea, Massachusetts on Tuesday, Aug. 14 to see the real Bobby Rydell, an American entertainment legend, perform some of his top hits. With a plated lunch and an opening act starring comedian Frankie Pace, this is sure to be a unique experience you won’t forget.

Price of trip is $115 per person for active members, and $126 per person for non-active members.

White Mountain’s North Conway Train Trip: Cruise with the Springfield Roadrunners on Thursday, Sept. 13 to enjoy lunch at the award-winning White Mountain Hotel & Resort, a round-trip adventure on the Bartlett Train, free time in North Conway Village and a scenic foliage ride on the Kancamagus Highway.

Price of trip is $105 per person for active members, and $119 per person for non-active members.

"The Sicilian Tenors, Christmas Amore:" Ride with the Springfield Roadrunners as they travel to the Danversport Yacht Club in Danvers, Massachusetts on Tuesday, Dec.4 to see The Sicilian Tenors. This holiday show sold out at Carnegie Hall; it brings all our favorite Christmas songs to life in the best way possible. With a plated lunch included in the trip, this is sure to be a wonderful holiday experience.

Price of trip is $100 per person for active members, and $111 per person for non-active members.

Looking Ahead:

The Springfield Senior Songsters will present a free program, “God Bless America” at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 13 at the Springfield Senior Center, Main St., Springfield. The program features patriotic songs such as "America," "America the Beautiful," "Battle Hymn of the Republic," "A Tribute to the Armed Services" and related popular songs, including "Yankee Doodle Dandy," "Seventy-Six Trombones," "This Land is Your Land" plus many others. Light refreshments will be provided after the program.

Please note that the Springfield Senior Center will be closed on Monday, May 28 to observe Memorial Day.
