The “ideal solution” to Keene’s refuse problems was proposed last night: truck it all to Vermont. The offer was made by Harry K. Shepard, who owns a 40-acre landfill site in Springfield, Vt., 35 miles from Keene. Shepard proposed hauling all of Keene’s rubbish and garage to his land in boxcar-sized trailer trucks at a cost of about $40,000 per year. “I can’t think of anything better than moving rubbish to Vermont,” said Robert G. Shaw, public works director, after Shepard’s slide show presentation.
The bigger question is was this offer ever taken up on?
