Elks annual Soccer Shoots

The Springfield Elks Lodge will hold its annual Soccer Shoots on two days: on Sept. 15 in Chester, and on the following week on Sept. 22 in Springfield.

The Chester Soccer Shoot will take place behind Green Mountain Union High School on the upper field. The Springfield Soccer Shoot will be held at Riverside Middle School. Both soccer shoots are scheduled to start at 9 a.m.

Registration will be set up by the two Parks and Recreation departments during the weeks leading up to the shoots. Last-minute entries should be at the site by 8:30 a.m. on the day of the respective shoots.

Eligibility to compete is open to all boys and girls under the age of 14 with the age determined as of Jan. 1 of this year (2018). Anyone who turns 14 on Jan. 2, 2018 or after would be eligible.

The first group under eight will continue to kick to small goals. Those younger than 10 years of age to the oldest will kick to a big goal. This is a change from years past. Participants may only shoot at one site; if they do not win for a trip to the Vermont Elks State Soccer Shoot in Chester, they cannot compete at Springfield the next week in Springfield or any other Elks soccer shoot anywhere, organizers said.

For further information on the two shoots, please call Springfield Elks Lodge Soccer Chairman Victor Baskevich at (802) 885-4355.
