The first order of business will be an informal potluck meal. Those attending should bring a dish to share and their own complete place setting. Next on the program will be the 2018 annual business meeting of the sponsoring organization, the all-volunteer Crown Point Road Association, established 60 years ago in 1958. The association would welcome first-time guests and is seeking more members, especially people from Windsor County.
The event will conclude with an illustrated history lecture by Steve Perkins who is the executive director of the Vermont Historical Society and who will address the topic of the Hunt Family of Brattleboro and Weathersfield. Perkins will invite his audience to follow the five Hunt siblings as they navigated a young, fatherless life with travels through Europe, training with world’s most accomplished artists, and later acclaim of their own. Architect Richard Morris Hunt and artist William Morris Hunt captured the attention of late 19th-century America while lesser-known brother Leavitt adventured in the Middle East, served in the Civil War, and settled in Weathersfield after marrying into one of Vermont’s best-known families. Hear how an older sister gave up her dreams to support her younger brothers.
The public is welcome to attend the meeting and the talk. No admission fee is charged. For questions, Jim Rowe, the CPRA president, can be reached at 802-434-7415.
