Join the Springfield Community Players as they welcome back local favorite, “The Marvelous Wonderettes.” In this theatrical sequel, the Wonderettes are back at Springfield High – Go Chipmunks! – to throw a retirement party for their favorite homeroom teacher.
Set the scene in 1969, as the Wonderettes sing their way through some of the greatest girl-group hits of the 1960s. In Act One, the audience bids a fond farewell to Ms. McPherson, their favorite homeroom teacher, but that is not the only goodbye the Wonderettes will be saying! As it turns out, one of their own reveals that she will also be saying goodbye to search for success and happiness of her own.
In Act Two, the Wonderettes come together again many years later as the class of 1958 celebrates their 20-year high school reunion. With the hits of the ‘70s serving as the soundtrack to their lives, the Wonderettes hit the stage and perform with their own marvelous flair, as they tell tales of where life has taken them. Watch in awe as these old friends catch up and see where life has brought these Chipmunks all these years later!
After much consideration, the Springfield Community Players decided to begin and end their theater season with musicals, making this year the second year that “The Marvelous Wonderettes” will finish off the season for the community players. Reprising their roles from the first installment of “The Marvelous Wonderettes” are Samantha Holmberg as Cindy Lou and Carole Clark as Missy. This year, however, we have Robin Keefe Stoto, returning to the community players after a long hiatus, as Suzy. In addition, we have a newcomer Meredith Pelton playing the sassy Betty Jean.
Longtime community player’s member and seasoned director, Donald Gray, will direct “The Marvelous Wonderettes: Dream On.” Donald has been with the organization since 1974 when he joined the cast of “Brigadoon,” and since then has directed over 18 plays, 16 musicals, and eight musical revues. Donald has also served on the executive board in many forms but has been treasurer for a long-standing 25 years.
“I’ve done just about everything from acting and directing to cleaning toilets and mowing the lawn. During our season, the studio is pretty much my second home,” says Gray.
While there are other installments of “The Marvelous Wonderettes” series, there are no current plans to produce another show within the series in the near future; however, that could change.
Performances for “The Marvelous Wonderettes: Dream On” will be at the Springfield Community Players Studio on 165 South Street in Springfield, Vt.
