Alan Pinders named Citizen of the Year

Long-time Furman's Department Store owner Alan Pinders was honored Friday night with the title of Springfield's Citizen of the Year.

The award was presented at the annual meeting of the Chamber of Commerce. Dr. John Sinclair did the introduction and presentation. He called Pinders "the Honorary Mayor of Springfield". Besides being a fixture of downtown Springfield for many years, Pinders has performed inumerable good deeds for many of his fellow citizens, visitors from out of town and local organizations.

Now 80 years old, Alan still works during the summer helping to run his late son's business, Crown Point Camping Area in Perkinsville.
