Downtown restaurant closes

McKinley's Restaurant (formerly known as Penelope's) has closed its doors.

Penelope's Restaurant was founded 36 years ago. B. J. and Beverly Crowley have owned the restaurant for the past ten years.

It was forced to close in 2008 after a devastating fire in the Ellis Block next door sent water cascading into the McKinley block which housed the restaurant and McKinley's Pub in the basement. It was nearly a year before the two were re-opened. This summer they were merged together, renamed as McKinley's Restaurant.

The sluggish economy can be blamed for its sudden closing. The business is available for lease.

  1. If by "sluggish economy" they mean mediocre food at inflated prices- then yes. I would think Coopers is next with terrible, yet cheaper food. Why can't there be a decent restaurant in this area?
