Posted: Nov 25, 2010 12:43 PM Updated: Nov 25, 2010 6:49 PM On Thursday night while most people are relaxing after Thanksgiving dinner, a Springfield, Vt. family must figure what to do after a fire destroyed their home. The winter coating on the home is a reminder of a long and very hot night. "I saw a red glow out of my window," says Scott Hunter, who lives next door to 158 Union Street. On Wednesday night, he raced inside the burning home. "Just yelled fire and telling people to get out," says Hunter. Neighbors say a family of five, a mom and four kids, lived in the home. Hunter says two of the kids were inside at the time and he found them in the back of the home. "Everybody was safe. Everybody got out," says Hunter. Jon Orme was also there around 10:00pm Wednesday when firefighters arrived. He says the fire was the only thing lighting the area. "Windows started exploding there was so much heat," says Orme. Firefighters didn't pack up and leave until twelve hours later. They say it's too early to know what started the fire but say no one was hurt. "That's a great thing to be thankful for," says Orme. Lisa Currier also lives next door. As winds pushed the flames, she says she worried the driveway was not enough of a barrier to protect her home. Currier is thankful her home is okay but is already collecting donations to help her neighbors. "So that way they can get back on their feet again," says Currier.
