SPRINGFIELD — Stephanie Thompson of Springfield, Vermont has been named director of the Springfield Prevention Coalition (SPC).
Born and raised in Springfield, Thompson is a 2003 graduate of Springfield High School and holds undergraduate degrees from the Vermont State College system as well as a certificate in Non-profit Management from Marlboro College. Thompson also recently completed course work for a Master's degree in Public Administration from Norwich University.
Thompson held a previous position with Springfield Family Center and has been a member of the Springfield Selectboard since 2010. As a founding member of the Our Voices eXposed group, Thompson was also involved with the Teen Center and SPC as well as local youth leadership programs and state-level programs throughout her high school career.
With funding from the Holt Special Incentives Grant, SPC will work on a long-term community plan that prevents and reduces substance use and abuse among youth in the Springfield community. Mt. Ascutney Prevention Partnership Prevention Coordinator, Courtney Hillhouse, will assist SPC with community prevention efforts.
Stephanie explains the direction of SPC as, “SPC has had a strong volunteer board for the past few years, however, receiving funding to assist with staffing is a tremendous step to rebuilding the capacity of the organization in the community.”
