Wrestling by these grapplers in green was some of their best work all season.   Photos by Kelly Stettner

Just a sample of some of the extremely hard work put forth by our K-6 kids yesterday; our two youngest wrestlers each faced down some very hard opponents in what amounts to their State Championship, the final battle of their wrestling season -- kudos to Brock Martin for going the distance even when you didn't think you could, and congrats to Izic Putnam for placing 2nd in your bracket! Well done, you two!

Wrestling tournament season has wound down for Springfield's Brock Martin (first grade) and Izic Putnam (second grade), with a final battle at Fair Haven Union High School on Saturday, April 2nd. Both boys are first-year wrestlers, and each faced down some very hard opponents in what amounts to their State Championship. Brock dug deep to go the distance, battling it out to the end of his matches. Izic showed fierce determination in both his matches, coming in 2nd place with a trademark grin.

Springfield's roster on Saturday also included several older elementary-school boys: Cole Wright 's hard work showed in all his matches, as he nearly bested the tournament champion on his path to secure 3rd place, beating out another contender.

Hunter Ferland's 3rd place medal came after two hard-fought wins (one in overtime) and two additional bouts with reigning state champions.

John Jasinski, Jr put forth some of his best effort of the season and pulled off an excellent win; Logan Roundy, Gabe McNeil, Connor Azarigian, and Armando Stettner each faced their challenging matches head-on, continuing the "never give up" tradition of Springfield Wrestling.

The team's 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders head to Vergennes on April 9th for their State Championship.
