Opinion: Support Senator Dick McCormack

Windsor County State Senator Dick McCormack and his wife Cindy campaigning today in Springfield on the eve of the Vermont State Primary election day.

Dear Editor-

I am glad to write this letter to support Richard McCormack’s run for the Vermont Senate. Dick has represented Windsor County for 23 years. He cares about education, pre-K to graduation and beyond. He has made decisions that support women’s issues, creating a higher minimum wage with paid sick leave and same sex marriage. While supporting important social issues, he has also addressed energy conservation including weatherization of homes and businesses, Act 250, GMO labeling and properly sited clean, renewable energy.

Dick’s experience is an asset as is his energy, effectiveness and enthusiasm for the democratic process. On August 9, those of us in Windsor County will be voting for three Senators. Please join me in voting for Senator McCormack as one of your choices.

McCormack has served well

To the Editor:

Dick McCormack has served the people of Windsor County in an honorable fashion since first joining the Vermont state Senate in 1989.

As a public school teacher of 30-plus years, I have always been impressed with his dedication to the interests of children, teachers and constituents of the very diverse communities within our county. He has consistently supported preschool, after-school and summer programs for kids.

Dick’s support for the working women and men of Vermont is unwavering. He worked very hard to ensure preschool educators be given the right to organize and collectively bargain, so these very important people could earn a livable wage.

Dick McCormack has been an effective leader in the Vermont state Senate for 23 years, defending free speech, reproductive rights, same-sex marriage and end-of-life choices. He is willing to discuss any issue with an open mind and a Vermonter’s heart.

I encourage you to vote for Dick McCormack, Democrat, Windsor County senator, in the Aug. 9 primary. Or you can see your town clerk for an early voting ballot today.

McCormack is the right choice

Dear Editor—
I am pleased to hear that Dick McCormack is running for re-election. Dick has served Windsor County voters well over the years and has earned my support.
Dick McCormack brings energy, enthusiasm and effectiveness to his legislative work. Having served in the Senate for 23 years, Dick brings experience to the Senate, which is an asset. He listens carefully and he cares about the issues. He listens to other viewpoints with respect.
During the primary election on August 9th, Windsor County voters will get to vote for three Windsor County Senators. I hope you will join me in casting one of your votes for Sen. McCormack. You can vote by mail now by going into your town clerk’s office and voting or by calling your town clerk and asking that a ballot be mailed to you.

McCormack for the Senate

To the Editor:

I am pleased Dick McCormack is running to represent Windsor County in the Vermont Senate. I’ll be voting for him again, and I hope you will, too.

What I like most about Dick is how thoughtful he is. He is always not only willing but eager to discuss issues important to me, and he listens carefully even if I don’t support his position. He understands that every question has at least two sides, and that people who disagree with him may have good reasons.

Dick also understands that many of today’s threats to personal freedom come not from big government, but from big corporations. Or even small ones. He knows government action is often the only way to protect people’s freedom. One example is his support for labeling of food from genetically modified organisms.

Dick has been in the Senate more than 20 years, so he knows his way around state government. His experience is one reason he has been so effective, and it is a great asset to Windsor County.

After June 24 you can get a primary election ballot from your town clerk and vote early. Please do, and mark the line for Dick McCormack.

  1. Whatever McCormack's skills and exploits, his support for Matt Dunne is a mark against him. MD is not Bernie, that's just a Bernie-suit he's wearing.

  2. Tried to comment on Paul Gibbs but couldn't get past the crazy anti-robot software. What gives?

  4. Nothing personal, but it's true - The past two weeks I've seen Dick out there waving and smiling, glad handing at Recycling, walking downtown looking at the empty storefronts with a look of solemn concern. How is it possible I can see so much of him in such a short period of time - but never anytime else than election time? If he did this more often, I'd be more apt to cradle his message. But so it goes - until next time he's up for election. See you then.
