The Springfield Fire Department will host its second annual Open House from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday. July 27 at the fire department.
The Springfield Fire Department will host its second annual Open House from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday. July 27 at the fire department.
This year's free event will include a children's bicycle rodeo and safety course from 3 to 5 p.m., job-related demonstrations, tower rides, the "Sledgehammer a Car" event, and more.
It will also include free bike helmets for children, as well as free smoke detectors to those in need, all while supplies last. The SFD will also be serving hamburgers, pasta salads and other foods.
The event will be sponsored by Hillside Auto, Springfield Health Center, Summer Days Camp, American Red Cross, Edgar May Health and Recreation Center, Springfield Royal Diner, Jake's South Street Market, and Springfield Starting Points.

ReplyDeleteI've actually never seen a cat stuck in a tress, whatever that is. But if one is stuck in a tree - they don't do that either.

DeleteGreen Mountain Power did all the rescueing with their equipment and personnel. Heck, the Springfield Fire Chief never even showed up, MIA! Probably home flipping burgers!
Wow!, Really? I did not know that. Guess I should have figured it out when I read that Weathersfield FD was in control of the scene. All the more reason we need to know how much we're paying this absentee Chief! I won't even mention the incident where the SFD strapped a woman with a minor sprained ankle to the deck of another department's airboat , flipped it and drowned her. SFD was in command of the airboat despite their whining "It wasn't our boat" Town paid dearly!

DeleteSpringfield Fire was in command of the pilot in the tree and utilized GMP for their equipment. If you don't have first hand knowledge and weren't there...you shouldn't talk. Or better yet...if you think you can do better you should go and apply to work there!
DeleteFirefighters are people just like you and I, but what they do is go above and be on what normally people might, which is run to a fire to help when they can, and put their lives on the line. They deserve our respect, and every once in awhile there is a bad one. Why does everyone have to make snide remarks, does it make you feel big?
ReplyDeleteRoger, unfortunately, several of us in the community have suffered at the hands of SFD's bumbling members. Like many enterprises in Spfld, talent is increasingly in very short supply. Shame, it was once a very proud department who's members proudly marched in parades and volunteered at successful fund raisers. Beyond that, the community would be aghast at the salaries and benefits award minimally educated officers.
DeleteI'd be very interested in seeing the salaries of the chief, deputy chief and officers of the SFD. I know it's Public Information but all salaries are lumped together and not broken out individually. Anybody have these numbers, please post.
