Couple charged with using young child to smuggle drugs into the Springfield jail
A couple accused of borrowing a relative’s young child and using her to attempt to smuggle drugs into the Springfield jail have been brought up on criminal charges in connection with that August incident.

Springfield woman extradited to NH for the second time in a month
A Springfield woman who was just extradited to New Hampshire last month on a heroin possession charge was arrested over the weekend and extradited back to New Hampshire again this week to face a cocaine possession charge.

$25,000 Coverys grant supports pharmacist at SMCS Rapid Access Clinic

Coverys Community Healthcare Foundation in Boston recently awarded a $25,000 grant to Springfield Medical Care Systems (SMCS). The grant supports an innovative new concept to include pharmacist consultation services as a component of its Rapid Access Clinic.

Vt. opioid forum: good news and bad
Rep. Peter Welch met with a group of first responders, public servants, caseworkers, medical professionals and others working on solutions to the opioid epidemic at the Nolin Murray Center in Springfield Monday. The forum was the latest of several to bring together people in Vermont addressing the heroin and prescription drug epidemic.

Rep. Welch says help is on the way for opioid crisis
U.S. Rep. Peter Welch believes federal funding of $4 million and counting will help Vermont communities fighting the opioid crisis. Health Care and Rehabilitative Services of Southeastern Vermont is one organization that Welch would like the money to reach.

Springfield woman charged with sale of fentanyl
A Springfield woman was arrested last week by members of the Southern Vermont Drug Task Force and charged with sale of fentanyl, an especially potent opioid that police say has been responsible for a number of heroin overdose deaths across the region.
