Henniker is once again searching for a town administrator after Tom Yennerell, who has been in the position since January 2013, accepted the town manager position in Springfield, Vt.
“I would have loved to have been there a couple of more years . . . but an opportunity comes up that would expand my career,” he said. “It’s a really good career opportunity for me. Springfield is twice the size of Henniker. The budget is twice as big. There’s a lot more pure management type of things that I’ll be involved with, just because those sort of things don’t exist in a smaller town.”
Yennerell’s last day in Henniker will be Nov. 6; he starts in Springfield on Nov. 17. He said he was offered the position last week and gave his notice Oct. 8.
The Vermont position comes with a raise for Yennerell, whose salary in Henniker is $75,920. His salary in Springfield will be $92,000.
“He for sure will be missed, and we wish him well in his opportunity,” said Kris Blomback, chairman of the Henniker Board of Selectmen.
A job posting for the Henniker town administrator position, first announced Oct. 10, lists the salary ranging from $55,000 to $85,000. Applications are due Nov. 14 to the Town Administrator Search Committee.
With a week and a half gap between Yennerell’s last day and the application deadline, there will likely be a period when Henniker is without a town administrator. Blomback said under that scenario, the town would ask Russ Roy to step in as an interim town administrator, something Roy has done in the past.
“We’re not going to skip a beat in the performance of the town,” Blomback said. Roy is currently listed on the town’s website as finance director and systems administrator.
Yennerell said the board has not met since he announced his resignation. The next selectmen’s meeting is Tuesday. Assembling the search committee will be discussed at the meeting, Blomback said.
Even after Yennerell’s official last day as town administrator, he said he has agreed to assist the town before a new administrator is chosen, an he’ll be available to help train the new hire.
Blomback “asked if I would come back for a few days when somebody is hired . . . and I agreed to do that,” Yennerell said.
A budget advisory committee meeting in Henniker is scheduled for Nov. 15, and Yennerell said he offered to work that day.

ReplyDeleteThis is what you hire for a town in deep trouble that is circling the drain? Seems the selectmen wanted someone inexperienced with a larger town who will be controllable and someone to blame when the town fails completely.
Wow, sure glad that the select board sought the assistance of the VT League of Cities and Towns to find such a "glowing" hire! The guy's first hire will be a public affairs specialist who can help remove his foot from his mouth.
ReplyDeleteIt's fairly obvious that the town didn't hire a leader, but more of a "pure management type" who can immerse himself in those "pure management type of things", whatever they are.
well lets not forget he gets a new car and a gas budget from the taxpayers for incentive. Even I would jump on that perk
DeleteIf he buys a home on Pleasant Valley Road I bet that road gets paved immediately!
