Students stage walkout to support fired coach

Dozens of Springfield High School students walked out of school Wednesday morning to protest the firing of popular football coach Gary Harris.

Good to see students voicing their concerns. However, this issue is not about the coach's competency, ability to motivate and lead, nor, how much people think he is a good guy. It is all about the texts. Until he makes those available, the administration is not allowed to, I accept the decision of The superintendent.

  2. I agree with you Tony. The coach said that he deleted some of them but the superintendent has a hard copy of them.
Maybe the coach should give the superintendent permission to release all of them so that we could see if they are worth getting excited over.
Although it really doesn't matter because I don't think the super wants to keep him.
There is probably more to this story than the citizens will ever know about.

  3. I saw a post that one of the parents posted on Facebook this morning wanting to remove the school board because they are supporting the superintendent. Get over it! This is a part time position and the superintendent and school board are not allowed to give out any information. I want to waste taxpayers (my) money to have a new vote because a few parents are upset with a decision? I think not! So every time my daughter fails a test, I will want a new school board in place to change her grade.

    1. Remove the school board? Do they realize that the open seats on the school board have been unopposed for they last 5 years. Where would the replacements come from? After watching this debacle, it just isn't worth serving on the board.

  4. Since they're in front of the Park Street facility, I'd support them if they'd alter their signs to read "Tear this Down!"

  5. Anonymous @ 1:40 It's not a part time position; it is a contracted position. No one is asking the superintendent to give out information, they are asking him to reconsider his decision. And this situation is not at all like a student who fails a test. Perhaps your daughter should spend more time studying and she wouldn't fail so many tests.
