The Edgar May Thanksgiving Day 5k Submitted by admin on Thu, 11/12/2015 - 2:19pm SPRINGFIELD, Vt. - The EdgarMay Health and Recreation Center is excited to announce the 3rd Annual Thanksgiving Day 5k Road Race and Walk on Thanksgiving Day, November 26th. Runners and walkers of all ages are invited to participate in this fun and exciting event before enjoying their Thanksgiving meal. Registration begins at 8 a.m., and the race starts at 9 a.m. To register, please call 802-885-2568 or visit www.myreccenter.org Thanksgiving morning is a great time to get out with friends and family for walk or run. Start off a day otherwise filled with sitting with an energizing trip around the side streets of Springfield. When you sit down to dinner, you’ll feel refreshed and proud. This year the EdgarMay is also awarding prizes for the family with the greatest number of participants, and for the oldest and youngest walker or runner. Bring the whole family with you! The 5K Fun Run and Walk will take off from Springfield Hospital, then follow Park Street to Union Street and Union Street to South Street. Runners and walkers then turn right onto Davis Street and loop back towards Union Street. After a short jaunt along Pine Street and Lewis Street neighborhoods, the race ends by climbing to the top of Ridgewood Road and finishing at the bottom of Hospital Hill. EdgarMay Executive Director Christian Craig stated: “This event is a great way to start what is typically known as the largest calorie consumption day of the year. Come out and burn off some calories and you won’t feel as guilty about that second piece of pie.” The race is also seeking volunteers. If you are interested in supporting this fun community event, contact Mallory Peterson at the Edgar May Health and Recreation Center.
