Just after noon, officers responded to the area of Main and Clinton streets, just across the street from the Springfield Senior Center for a reported motor vehicle collision. Upon arriving at the scene officers made contact with the driver, Morgan Barber, 19, of White River Junction, Vermont. Barber told police she was traveling east on Main Street when she looked down for a brief moment, then when she looked up again she was headed toward the guardrail on the side of the westbound lane. She collided with the guardrail, rolled her Toyota Corolla and landed on two other parked vehicles. Both parked vehicles were unoccupied. Barber had minor injuries. The cause of the collision is still under investigation. Earlier in the day, around 7 a.m., police were dispatched to 333 River St., in the area of Precision Valley Communications for an accident where a vehicle had left the road and crashed over the top of a snow bank. The driver, Gary French, 59, of Westminster, was laying on the ground. It appeared that French was having a medical emergency. He was transported to Springfield Hospital to receive treatment for his injuries.
