Published May 24, 2016 in the Rutland Herald SOFTBALL MAU 6, Springfield 1 BENNINGTON — The two-time defending Division I state champion Mount Anthony Patriots won their 11th consecutive game, hiking their record to 14-1. But the 11-3 Cosmos pushed them as hard as any team in Vermont this year. The Patriots’ lone loss was to Pittsfield, Mass. MAU pitcher Taylor DiCranion had herself a day. She fired a one-hitter and also had two doubles. But Cosmos pitcher Jade Twombley was also very good. She only faltered in one inning when the Patriots scored five of their six runs. She struck out eight and did not walk any. “Jade really pitched well. She did herself proud,” Springfield coach Andy Bladyka said. Freshman Hannah Crosby homered in the fourth for the Cosmos.
