2017-06-03 / Community Springfield Senior Center news By Heather Hall, Executive Director On Wednesday, May 31, we had our 2017 Senior of the Year Celebration event at the senior center. This year, Donald Gray was crowned as the 2017 Senior of the Year. Michael Wooton was the runner-up and Mimi Amsden, Denis Menard and Elizabeth Moulten were named to be on the court. Everyone is well-deserving of this honor — please congratulate them if you see them. On Monday, June 5, the next sign-up for a day trip will take place. “The Corvettes Doo Wop Revue: Cruise,” with the Springfield Roadrunners is on Thursday, Nov. 9, down to Wrentham, Massachusetts to enjoy the premier national touring doo wop show. Noted as an “incredibly entertaining show and comical stage antics,” this show is sure to leave us all wanting more. Lunch is included in the price of this trip. Sign-Up Date: Monday, June 5th at 9 a.m. for ACTIVE MEMBERS. Price of Trip: ACTIVE MEMBERS: $89 per person and NON-ACTIVE MEMBERS: $101 per person. The Springfield Senior Center currently has two other trips available for people to sign up for. The first trip is to see The Bobby Darling Show. Get ready to laugh yourself silly with the Springfield Roadrunners as we travel down to the HukeLau in Chicopee, Massachusetts on Tuesday, Aug. 15 to enjoy The Bobby Darling Show and a TWIN LOBSTER MEAL (prime rib for us Land Lubbers). This show is a wonderful mix of music and comedy. ACTIVE MEMBERS: $89.95 per person and NON-ACTIVE MEMBERS: $101.95 per person. The second trip available is an overnight trip to Pennsylvania Dutch Country. “Pennsylvania Dutch Country’s: The Miracle of Christmas & Much More,” join the Springfield Senior Center as we travel to Pennsylvania for three days and two nights during the early holiday season for a trip we won’t soon forget. With tickets to see two amazing shows and stops at Hershey’s Chocolate World, “The Sweetest Spot on Earth,” and the National Christmas Museum, this is sure to be an amazing trip. The VNA will be at the senior center on Tuesday, June 6, for the Foot Clinic. Appointments are necessary and are $20 each. Join the Springfield Senior Center on Wednesday, June 7, for our very own play directed by Donald Gray. Come laugh yourself silly as you see Carol Peebles, Nancy McLernon, Judy Bastille, Dorothy Sargent, Chris Curran and David Parker act in, “Sex Please, We’re Sixty.” The play will start at 1 p.m., and there will be an intermission with refreshments. To bring a refreshment, please see the sign-up sheet at the Springfield Senior Center. Thursday, June 8, will be the last day of Yoga for the Summer schedule.
