Lack of signage sparks Eagle Scout project

Video: Troop 252 Boy Scout Adam Stokarski (green cap) supervises fellow scouts in the installation of a new sign he made for the North School Recreation Park as his Eagle Scout project.

Adam also built the frame and with the help of the other scouts, broke ground for it last fall. (See springfieldvt.blogspot.com/2017/09/boy-scouts-break-ground)

In order to reach Eagle Scout, one must have earned at least 21 Merit Badges, plan and complete a major project, and be approved by a Board of Review.

Adam had to follow specific guidelines to create and install his sign. He first had to formulate a plan and come up with an estimate of the cost. He then had to raise funds from donations to obtain the needed materials and expertise. And he had to recruit other scouts and friends to help with the creation and installation.

The North School building was closed down as a school in 1984. Since then, most of the activity there had been use of the 5.5 acre school grounds. It was officially given the name North School Recreation Park almost 20 years ago but it lacked any sign until now.
