Cosmos softball wins on Senior Night, 9-5 over Lady Jacks Christopher Shaban 6 hrs ago 0 Cosmo Seniors Springfield Seniors Madee Stagner, Hailey Rabtoy, Laura Wentworth, Gillian Guy and Lizzy Chambers gather with their families before Monday's senior game. Christopher Shaban SPRINGFIELD- An old-school CVL matchup feel was evident for Monday’s game, which was a perfect night for five Springfield seniors with a come-from-behind, claw-it-out a win over Windsor, 9-5. Springfield recognized their 5 seniors before the game as Madee Stagner, Hailey Rabtoy, Laura Wentworth, Gillian Guy and Lizzy Chambers all gathered with their families on the field. “I must admit that playing Windsor is never easy and tonight was no exception,” said Springfield head coach Andy Bladyka after the game. After Windsor jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead, as Jasmine Frazier delivered a 3-RBI blast to the gap in left-center that cleared the bases, Springfield pitcher Hannah Crosby locked in. That blast by Frazier would be the only hit Crosby allowed on Monday night. Windsor would add another run from Lexi Merrill in the second as a result of a walk, two wild pitches and a passed-ball, but Springfield would tie the game in their own half of the second. Rabtoy and Chambers got things going with back-to-back walks, and Guy followed with a single as all three would cross the plate to tie the game 4-4 after only 2 innings. “I was a little worried at first but we relaxed and made some good plays,” said Guy after the game. Windsor would reclaim the lead as Hannah Wood scored after drawing a walk, but the Cosmos would take the lead back for good in the bottom of the third inning. Stagner would walk and Rabtoy would reach on an error. The Cosmos weren’t having much success hitting Rugg, so small-ball took over as bunts and clever base running resulted in runs for the Cosmos. Chambers drove Stagner in on a fielder’s choice and Rabtoy would cross the plate to give Springfield the lead for good. That lead was all Crosby would need as she grew stronger as the game wore on, allowing that one hit while striking out 12 for the complete-game win. She struck out 6 of the final 9 Windsor batters, including setting the side down in order in the 4th and 5th innings. advertisement Rabtoy, who is planning on going to college for nursing, said she was pretty confident being down early. “We amped ourselves up and it was a really good team effort tonight and with Hannah pitching unbelievable, I felt we had a good chance on senior night,” Rabtoy said after the game. Crosby picked up the win tonight while Rugg only gave up 3 hits, while striking out 7 for the Yellow Jackets. “We were down 4-1 but kept grinding it out against an always-good Windsor team,” said Bladyka, and added, “We took what they gave us and came away with a big win with a great team effort from every player tonight.”
