Springfield softball earns road win at Bellows Falls Kameron Towle Sports crosby Springfield's Hannah Crosby struck out 12 in her complete-game on the mound Wednesday. Kameron Towle WESTMINSTER- Bellows Falls softball hosted Springfield on Wednesday evening, and even with the Terriers playing lights-out defense in the first two innings, the Cosmos offense proved to be too powerful. Springfield plated 14 runs over the final five innings to beat Bellows Falls on the road, 14-0. Despite the loss, Bellows Falls head coach, Kim Wells, saw the game as an improvement for the Terriers as they near the postseason. She said, “The last game we played (against Springfield) we only went five with them. They mercy-ruled us in five innings. For me, this was not a technical win, but it was a win for us. I think we’re doing a lot better and heading in the right direction heading into the tournament.” Wells went on to say, “The score doesn’t really reflect how that went. There was no inning that was just a blowout inning. It was just a slow increase. We had our struggles getting our bats going. But otherwise, our first couple innings were awesome.” After a scoreless first two innings, Springfield finally put some runs on the board in the top of the third. Ashley Chamberlain got things started by scoring on a wild throw back to the pitcher that traveled to second base. Hailey Rabtoy then hit an RBI-single and would later come around to score on a passed-ball. After a 1,2,3 bottom-half, the Cosmos led 3-0 after three. Springfield plated four more in the fourth. With one out, the Cosmos hit three consecutive infield-singles to load the bases. Julianna Albero-Levings then came through with a big 3-RBI triple to center field. Albero-Leving would then score on a passed-ball to give the Cosmos a 7-0 advantage after four innings of play. In the top of the fifth, they would score another on a Molly Leonard shallow groundball that served as a suicide squeeze to score Kayla Gibbons after Gibbons hit a triple to right-center. In the bottom of the fifth, Terriers’ Emily Bazin hit a double to left that broke up Hannah Crosby’s no-hit bid. But, that would be the only hit allowed on the evening. On Crosby’s performance on the mound (12 strikeouts), Springfield head coach Andy Bladyka, said, “Hannah and Mikahla (Jasinski) worked really well together today. Hannah had her control and she seems to be peaking at the right time. The last two games she’s thrown more strikes than she has been and that makes me happy.” Springfield added two more in the sixth on a passed-ball and a Jesie Fisher RBI-single. They poured on four more in the top of the seventh. Crosby had a big 2-RBI double to deep right-center in the inning. On the win, Bladyka said, “Good team effort today. We got off to a slow start today and BF came out ready to play. It took us a few innings to get the offense going but we did eventually. It’s a road win against a D-2 team and we’re fighting for positioning in the tournament right now so it’s an important win for us. We’re trying to work our way into a four spot for the tournament.” Facebook Twitter Email Print Save Sports Kameron Towle Sports Editor
