The Springfield Unified basketball team ended their season Saturday night in an upset against Mill River 40-30 in a semi final game to bring their overall record to 7-3.

Springfield Unified Basketball team closes season at the semi finals May 20, 2018 SPRINGFIELD, Vt. – The Springfield Unified basketball team ended their season last night in an upset against Mill River 40-30 in a semi final game to bring their overall record to 7-3. basketball Mill River and Springfield Unified Basketball teams met in semi finals and Mill River took home the win. Photo by Sue Dana. Cosmos players came out with a strong defense to slow down Mill River’s top shooter Ian Smith. In the first quarter, the Cosmos led 7-4 from Evan Hall’s three-pointer at the 10-second mark. Springfield’s Cameron Colon, Hall, and the team used their energy to tire out Smith. In the second quarter, Springfield was able to score 6 more points but could not catch up to the Minutemen, leaving the halftime score 17-13. In the third quarter, Colon was on fire, earning nine of his 11 points and bringing the score to 29-24 with Mill River leading by four points. During the fourth quarter, the Cosmos added six more points to the game from Jaydon Thurber, Luke Machado and Falisha Maly with an end game result of 40 – 30 Mill River. Smith earned 28 points, Kiele Miele four points, Cathy Braley two points, Addison Czar four points, and Thomas Reynolds 2 points. For the Cosmos, Falisha Maly was able to chip in four points with her dribble and drive moves through the open lane. Springfield was hot on the boards, with Lance Robinson leading with 12 rebounds, one assist, and his six-point contribution. In the fourth quarter, Robinson was asked to step out of his element and play defense up top. Without question, he performed to the T and then had his coaches questioning if he should have played that position all season. Great job Lance, you will be missed next year, and we hope you can come back and visit us at a game Gavin Glidden grabbed seven powerful offensive and defensive rebounds with one assist. Alex Sanborn contributed with three rebounds and two points. Paul Dana led the team with three assists as well as three rebounds. Evan Hall ended the night with three points. The Springfield Cosmos Unified Basketball team brings to the sport every concept of the word “unified.” Each player on the team contributes to the whole team. Springfield has a young well-rounded team with a lot of potential, but most of all good sportsmanship and spirit. See you next year in the 2018-2019 season. Cameron Colon and Natalie Corliss are also seniors leaving the team behind as they enter the world of life after high school. Cameron Colon brings energy to his play and team. Natalie Corliss brings her maturity and spirit to her team and always has something positive to say about her teammates.
