Wow, What a Year for VINE Animal Sanctuary


From the donors who stepped up to help us buy a new tractor and build a new satellite site to the volunteers who stepped up to staff events or tackle on-site projects, our extended community made it possible for VINE to organize or participate in more than 60 events all the while taking care of more than 600 animals!

Vermont Boy Scout chapter adds 95 girls to Cub program

As the Boy Scouts of America faces mounting legal battles, the organization has opened multiple scout programs to females and, since June, 95 girls have joined the Cub Scout program in Vermont.

Annual Holiday Open House at VINE Sanctuary


The staff of VINE animal sanctuary will be opening their holiday party to the members of their extended community of volunteers, donors, boosters, and other friends of the sanctuary. It happens this Thursday, December 27th from 12 PM – 3 PM.

Humane society seeks food, toy donations

The Springfield Humane Society is trying to bring Christmas to the kennels.To that end, they have launched a holiday donation drive. They’re looking for pet food, treats, and toys.

Chamber Of Commerce seeks nominations for 2018 Citizen and Organization of the Year

Every year the Springfield Regional Chamber of Commerce honors a Citizen of the Year and an Organization of the Year for their outstanding leadership, civic pride, and commitment to the betterment of Springfield and the surrounding area.  Deadline for submissions is 12/28/18.

Elks Lodge #1560 annual Hoop Shoot

Springfield Elks Lodges 47th annual hoop shoot will be held Saturday, Dec. 8, at 9 a.m. at Riverside Middle School. This event will be open to all boys and girls, ages 8 to 13 based on their age as of April 1, 2019.

Springfield Food Co-op celebrating National Co-op Month


This October, Springfield Food Co-op is joining over 40,000 co-operatives and credit unions across the United States in celebrating Co-op Month, observed nationally since 1964. This year, the National Cooperative Business Association has chosen “Co-operatives See the Future” as the theme for the month, inviting co-op members to work together to make the world a better place, now and for future generations.

Springfield Rotary Club president Jeff Mobus caught up with Saturday’s Penny Sale grand prize winner Mark Germain at the “Power of Pink” dance fundraiser held at the VFW the same evening.

Springfield Elks send six competitors to Vt. Elks State Soccer Shoot


Springfield Elks Lodge #1560 sent six local winners to the Vt. Elks Soccer shoot on Sunday, Oct. 21st in St. Albans, Vt. Those six competed against seven other Lodges, and Springfield had two winners come home with 1st place trophy’s.

Springfield Garden Club receives state awards


The Springfield Garden Club earned several awards at the state level, which were presented during the Federated Garden Clubs of Vermont 2018 annual meeting. Springfield club members received recognition over and above 16 other garden clubs that make up the Federation of clubs from Vermont.

Rotary Penny Sale


Rotarians Julie Martin, Caitlin Christiana and Club President Jeff Mobus hold just a few of the stuffed friends that will be among the over 300 prizes available to win at the 66th annual Penny Sale on 10/20 at 6 pm (doors open at 5) at Riverside Middle School in Springfield.

Final North School fundraising sale for 2018


To keep its 5.5 acre recreation park open to the public, the North School Preservation Society must raise $2,400 yearly to pay the annual insurance bill in November. Their final fundraising sale of 2018 will be this Saturday, October 13. Many new items have been donated since the previous sale.

Elks Soccer Shoot results


Recently, Springfield Elks Lodge held their annual soccer shoots in Chester and Springfield. The results from both shoots were combined, so now overall winners in each age group will compete at the Vermont Elks Soccer finals Oct. 14, in St. Albans, Vt.

Quilters support Springfield Area Parent Child Center


This group of eight to 15 ladies meets twice a month for a day of social time, snacks, and sewing! To date, this group has donated over 200 blankets to the SAPCC Welcome Baby Bag program.

Lions Club 5th annual Fishing Tournament


The 5th annual Springfield Lions Club Fishing Tournament will take place Sunday, Sept. 9 at Hoyt’s Landing on Route 5 along the Connecticut River in Springfield. Registration starts at 6:30 a.m. There is a registration fee, but children 12 and under are free.

The Springfield Elks Lodge will hold its annual Soccer Shoots on two days: on Sept. 15 in Chester, and on the following week on Sept. 22 in Springfield.
