Submitted by VT Journal on Tue, 03/26/2013 - 11:50am
SPRINGFIELD, VT -Springfield Elks Lodge #1560 is always looking for ways to help their community. Thanks to there efforts of paying their annual per capita to Elks National Foundation, they get back funds to give to local groups like the Springfield Parks & Rec. Dept., Chester Parks and Rec. Dept., Drug Awareness programs and this week they were able to help out an organization called, Springfield Prevention Coalition with a check for $385.
The Springfield Prevention Coalition's vision is: Engaging Youth and Families to Build a Vibrant, Fun and Purposeful Community. Their mission is: Supporting Youth and Families to make a Healthy Choices. SPC started around 1998 with a state grant to look at drug abuse prevention and has continued to promote other healthy decisions specifically for youth in the community.
They have a new board of directors and officers. Amanda Battiest, and Makahyla Davis (co-presidents), Trevor Hanbridge (vice-president), Chuck Gregory (secretary), Marty Hammond (treasurer), Reverend Jean O'Bresky and Reverend Gerry Piper.
One of their first projects that they are supporting is a Community Pot Luck Dinner hosted by the First Congregational Church on Aspril 11, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. This event will give participants including key officials and members of our community the chance to have small group conversations that will help them identify the common interests and ideas about their future. All are welcome to come. The SPC will help generate participation in this event and use the information from the conversations to guide them in future work in the community.
They are always looking for new members, so please contact them if you are interested in helping. They may be reached by calling 802-885-8706 or writing to Springfield Prevention Coalition, 56 Main St., Springfield, Vt. 05156
Why was Chuck Gregory there? Did he mistakenly think that since the Elks were involved, it must have something to do with deer herd management?
ReplyDeleteThis town needs people who will put their shoulder to the wheel to make it work. The Prevention Coalition has to depend on volunteers to help kids learn how to make good choices. You should think about volunteering for it!
