NE police chiefs have new leader

Douglas Johnston knew he wanted to be a police officer when he was 17 years old. Johnston, then a senior at Springfield High School, became one of the department's cadets, being an officer's shadow.

  2. Go to springfield, vt police facebook and you'll see that this man can't even spell correctly.

  3. He spelled everything in the comment above yours correctly.

  4. Now if he would only give as much effort to the town and police department...

  5. Chief, sounds like you have a couple disgruntled employees. If they would only put as much effort into doing their jobs as blogging on this site, it would be for the betterment of this town.

  6. @848, with only 2 votes of "no confidence" and an ex wife who at one time felt the need to consider a protection order, it is more than a couple. You have to wonder what the criteria was for this position?

    1. The fact that there was two votes of "no confidence" and a protection order from his ex wife, and he is still your boss, tells us all we need to know. You either have a useless Union OR your Union's on to it's members. Keep paying those dues.

    2. The criteria for becoming Chief of police in Springfield or in any other municipality, including the Sheriffs department, is NOT shooting at a car in down town Springfield and blogging on this site.

  9. Why hire disgruntled cops? Why is it that more good cops are leaving? Ask the Chief and it is the same answer every time, it is not HIS fault. The drug problem, the shootings/stabbings, fatal crashes, armed robberies; not HIS fault. Now not suggesting he was the criminal mastermind behind those nefarious acts, but he surely has not provided the comprehensive plan or leadership to mitigate the problems. He has convinced town administration that it is the fault of disgruntled cops for the past 10 years. It is time for a change.

    1. Sounds like you need to join a Union, Oh wait you have one. If things were as bad as you present them to be on this page, one would wonder where is your Union? Could it be it's see this for it is! If your Union found just cause your wouldn't be needing to plead your case over and over on this site.

  10. He should be retiring soon right?

  11. 1244, seems to me the cop's union, the chief and town administration are all failing. Property values keep falling, taxes and police budget rise (did we really need to buy Johnston another new car?), the drug problem remains and zero meaningful growth. Why is there also zero accountability? Oh yeah because people like you glad hand the good old boys..,smh

  12. I love how everyone on here can talk smack as anonymous. Tell you what...apply for a position as a police officer and change the department and this town. Work your way up the chain of command and become chief then "fix" the town.

  13. Yes, there is only one "TG" in these parts..everyone knows who you are...also,"the Chief" is incompetent,in my anonymous opinion, and should be replaced.

    1. Who is TG? Did he fail the police entrance exam like you?

  14. Worst police department. Defends his dirty cops and dispatchers. While the decent ones leave. This Town needs a change in the police station as well as the adminstration

    1. So you're saying all the guys that have been there for 15-20 years are dirty? LOL. IDIOT!

  15. 8:53 pm, you are a former Springfield police officer, most likely you left because you were passed over for a promotion or disciplined. You have distain for The Spfld police department, the town administration, the police chief, your former fellow co-workers whom you refer to as dirty cops and dispatchers. You claim that only the decent ones leave. The implication being Spfld police department has only dirty cops and dispatchers. And when you say the "decent ones" are you referring to the kind that shoot at a car in down town Springfield in the middle of the day with a women in the car. Is this the decency you speak of. You are not happy with you current job and blame everybody but yourself. There is help out there.

  16. All the flunkies and pissed off customers can't resist themselves on here whenever they have a chance to lob one at a public official. Too bad they don't read it, or care what you morons think. You could put Bill Bratton here as Chief - and you are still going to have drug dealers and crooks getting petted on the back in court - and you will also have idiots like yourselves who just can't get over that speeding ticket on Clinton Street from 10 years ago.

  19. Has he met all the qualifications? Like being willing to shoot and kill unarmed people. That's what all police do these days...

    1. So this being an article about police, you see it being appropriate to vent about the publicized recent incidents from the entire country, and project that sparse sample of behavior onto "all police"?
