2017-08-24 / Arts & Entertainment St. Mark's hosts lunchtime program featuring Canadian television show SPRINGFIELD, Vt. — Lunch, laugh and learn as St. Mark's presents the Canadian television comedy, "Little Mosque on the Prairie," beginning at 12:10 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6 at the church, 33 Fairground Road in Springfield, Vermont. The series broke Canadian records for numbers of viewers, topping 2.1 million people for the early episodes — the highest figures for a new Canadian program in a decade. The series focuses on the Muslim community in the fictional prairie town of Mercy, Saskatchewan, where the primary institutions of the community are the local mosque, located in the rented parish hall of the town's Anglican church, and Fatima's CafĂ©, a downtown diner. It is a very humorous look at everyday life as cultures meet and find that they’re not all that different after all, sharing the same hopes, the same frustrations, the same laughter, and the same tears. The series is not preachy — just funny! Bring your own lunch, they will have cold drinks and hot coffee for you to enjoy. And they will wrap up before 1 p.m. so you can get back to work or whatever else you need to do. All are welcome — Wednesdays at 12:10 p.m. starting Sept. 6. Each week the group will watch one of the eight episodes of Season One — a free gathering offered by the folks at St. Mark’s Church.
