Springfield, Vt., Woman Receives Downgraded Sentence in Fatal Accident
White River Junction — A Springfield, Vt., woman will spend 30 days in prison for negligently operating a vehicle in a February 2012 crash that killed another Springfield woman.
Ling Wang, 51, was originally charged with gross negligent operation of a vehicle resulting in a fatality, which would have come with a maximum prison sentence of 15 years. But Wang pleaded guilty to a downgraded misdemeanor charge in February.
After Wang’s change of plea hearing in February, Windsor County State’s Attorney Michael Kainen said that there was a “mental health element” that attributed to her downgraded charge.
Kainen said in February that a competency evaluation states that Wang suffers from a serious delusional disorder that impairs her perception of the world and her medical needs and that she claims she is diabetic and needs insulin, but has not been diagnosed with diabetes.
Wang will serve 30 days in prison and will be on probation for five years. Her sentence also comes with conditions that include that she cannot drive during her probation and under Vermont statute, she cannot resume driving without the commissioner’s approval.
Wang must complete mental counseling and substance abuse counseling and cannot buy, have or use any regulated drugs unless prescribed by a doctor.

If this were a guy...he would have got life.....unreal!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI suspect that being male or female had little to do with the decision. I think the overriding factor is that this woman and her husband control lots of real estate in Springfield and thus the woman was given a free pass because she is part of the club. That club entitles anyone to perpetrate all kinds of crimes including murder because...they have the money and you don't..
ReplyDeleteand that is just sad....
DeleteTell us more. How much power does this family wield?
DeleteHow much power does this family wield? Good question.
DeleteA few years ago, the assistant fire marshall blew through the town inspecting rental properties. I would like to know how the properties belonging to her and her husband either did not get inspected or did not have to meet fire code.
I note that her husband and the assistant fire marshall go back to Bryants.
I also note that during this time, the assistant fire marshall revealed confidential information about my property to a local contractor so that the contractor could attempt to get an assignment from me to rectify one of the deficiencies noted by the assistant fire marshall.
Draw your own conclusions.
