Girl Scout Troop food drive benefits the Springfield Family Center December 26, 2017 Girl Scout The Springfield Girl Scouts worked hard to raise funds and food for local families in need. SPRINGFIELD, Vt. – Springfield Vermont’s Girl Scout Troop # 51293 braved the cold recently to collect food and cash donations to benefit the Springfield Family Center. The troop raised $165 in cash donations and collected several items of non-perishable foods. “The girls worked really hard and braved extreme cold standing out in front of the Shaw’s on that very cold Sunday,” said Troop co-leader Mary Krueger. “We are so proud of them as they volunteered their time to help those in need in our community.” Mike Wiese, Director of the Springfield Family Center met with the girls to thank them and collect the donation at their recent troop meeting. He was equally impressed with the girls’ commitment to community. The Springfield Family Center operates a food shelf, day time shelter with showers and laundry and provides hot meals and access to other resources for those in need.
