Films newly in public domain to be broadcast on SAPA TV


On Jan. 1, 2019, thousands of artistic works from 1923 will enter the public domain in the United States. To be in the public domain means works can be freely copied, modified or transformed without needing permission from a copyright holder.

SAPA TV hosting Christmas movies marathon

SAPA TV, Springfield’s public access TV station, will run 24 hours of Christmas movies and short subjects from 8 p.m. Christmas Eve to 8 p.m. Christmas Day. Includes 1964’s “Santa Claus Conquers the Martians,” the 1959 Mexican production “Santa Claus,” and a host of classic cartoons, all of which have entered the public domain.

SAPA TV celebrates 20 years

SAPA TV, Springfield’s public access TV station, became an official nonprofit June 9, 1998 and now celebrates 20 years of serving the community. The journey took a lot of work and several dedicated community members.

WNNE-TV leaves Springfield airwaves

Springfield area television viewers who turned the channel to WNNE 31 Monday got a new experience. Nothing. At midnight Sunday, the now former NBC affiliate -- based in Plattsburgh, NY and in Burlington, VT -- turned off its transmitter atop Mt. Ascutney.

KMA Publications Inc. acquires The Message for the Week

Robert Miller of KMA Publications Inc., owner and publisher of The Vermont Journal and The Shopper, announced Friday, April 27, 2018 that he has purchased The Message for the Week, The sale will merge the newspapers meaning The Message, which has been around for 44 years, will now cease to exist.

Vermont’s Rutland Herald and Times Argus newspapers are being sold to Sample News Group, a newspaper company that owns the Eagle Times of Claremont and The Message for the Week in Chester, Vermont.
