Cosmos softball dominant in round one win over Woodstock

The No. 5-seeded Springfield Cosmos softball team hosted No. 12 Woodstock on Tuesday evening, and after exploding for 7 runs in the bottom of the first, they would only continue to roll, winning 19-0 in just 4 ½ innings.

Cosmos make quick work of rebuilding Wasps

Hannah Crosby not only gets the ball to the plate in rapid fashion, but she can back off just enough to get the opposition off-balance. During Tuesday’s five-inning mercy-rule game, Crosby — a junior who has been starting for three seasons — allowed just one hit (a bunt single) with nine strikeouts and one walk.

Workshop will focus on improving public speaking skills

Springfield Elks Lodge 1560 recently held their annual Drug Awareness poster contest with the theme being, “Hero’s”. All third, fourth and fifth grade students at Union Street School participated.

VeggieVanGo is a program operated by the Vermont Foodbank that distributes, at no cost, healthy fresh produce to hungry people across our region. Delivery sites include Springfield Hospital.

Legislature recognizes HCRS’ 50th anniversary

Farmers’ Market set to open for the season

The nonprofit Springfield Farmers’ Market will be opening for their ninth season from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 2 on Lower Clinton St. (Route 11) near the trailhead of the Toonerville Walk / Bike Path. There is plenty of room for parking at this location.

Springfield on the Move helps brighten downtown

Springfield On the Move members mulched the Springfield Cinemas 3 courtyard recently on Green-up Day. Following that, a crew added to the perennials and planted the boxes with colorful annuals. More will follow, organizers said.

Bellows Falls defends home-diamond on Senior Day

The visiting Springfield Cosmos fell behind early and couldn’t recover, as Bellows Falls picked up a 14-4 win on Wednesday night in only five innings of work.

Springfield softball earns road win at Bellows Falls

Bellows Falls softball hosted Springfield on Wednesday evening, and even with the Terriers playing lights-out defense in the first two innings, the Cosmos offense proved to be too powerful. Springfield plated 14 runs over the final five innings to beat Bellows Falls on the road, 14-0.

An old-school CVL matchup feel was evident for Monday’s game, which was a perfect night for five Springfield seniors with a come-from-behind, claw-it-out a win over Windsor, 9-5. Springfield recognized their 5 seniors before the game: Madee Stagner, Hailey Rabtoy, Laura Wentworth, Gillian Guy and Lizzy Chambers.

Springfield woman facing up to life in prison after being charged with multiple sales of fentanyl

Less than a month after her mother was arrested for allegedly selling fentanyl, a 30-year-old Springfield woman has pleaded innocent to three felony counts alleging that she too sold the drug from the family's apartment on Wall Street to informants earlier this year.

Youth Solidarity Rally Parades Into Newport

North Country Union High School in Newport hosted an event this past weekend that saw some 170 teens from around the state march from the school to downtown Newport’s Pomerleau Park for a gathering at the gazebo to voice their concerns. "Every Kid Deserves a Loving Supportive Family" says a sign carried by Brendan Olmstead of Springfield.
