Dubie Comes to Town


A great day for Springfield, as Lt. Governor and gubernatorial candidate Brian Dubie walked the downtown for part of his jobs tour.

As a police officer and a resident in a town with more than its share of criminal problems, I have concerns over Peter Shumlin’s plan to release hundreds of “non-violent” offenders back onto our streets.

In his ads, Dubie says Peter Shumlin wants to cut the corrections budget $40 million by firing 300 corrections officers and prematurely turning loose hundreds of nonviolent prisoners on a wholesale basis. This is a lie.

VTel promises $10 rates, fiber optic service to “anchor institutions”

Michel Guite, the CEO of Vermont Telephone Company, promises to bring broadband Internet access to every Vermont town that now lacks coverage. He said Vtel would provide low cost service to residential customers within the next three years.

Water main flushing this week

Periodically, the town of Springfield cleans the water mains of harmless corrosion and accumulated foreign matter by opening hydrants and allowing the water to escape under high pressure.

A fire broke out before dawn in the Windy Hill Acres mobile home park in Springfield requiring a 2nd alarm response.

In Manchester, Jill Rushton scored with just over two minutes to play in the driving rain to break at 3-3 deadlock and power Springfield to a 4-3 MVL field hockey victory over Burr and Burton, chalking up the first win of the season for the Cosmos.
