Connecting with the community, River Valley Technical Center’s Kelly Broker-Campbell lit up the All-4-One Tinkering Club when the youth visited the Technical Center on Thursday.

Easter Egg Hunt at Riverside Park in Springfield

The Association of Springfield Area Churches is hosting an Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, March 31 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Riverside Park next to Riverside Middle School in Springfield, with the Easter Egg Hunt taking place at Noon.

Breach of bail results in nine-month sentence

Jesse Laflam, 45, of Springfield, Vt. was sentenced in Sullivan Superior Court in Newport, N.H. to serve a nine-month term of incarceration at the Sullivan County House of Corrections for violating the terms and conditions of his bail.

Thanks to NewsBank, its Chester Conference Center on Saturday, March 17 was once again filled with young engineers who created some fabulous entries in the seventh annual LEGO Contest, sponsored by St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. Thirty exhibitors in grades Pre-K through Seventh came from 11 towns in Vermont and two in New Hampshire.

Springfield wrestlers make local waves

Earlier this month, Springfield hosted their annual back-to-back wrestling tournaments and saw record numbers. The Schweitzer Memorial K-8 tournament welcomed ​over 260 youth wrestlers from all over the tri-state area; special guest Bob Backlund of WWE fame made a surprise appearance and wowed the entire crowd.

Landmark gun law moves ahead in marathon House session

A bill that makes sweeping changes to the state’s gun laws, including expanding federal background checks to the private sale of firearms, has gained preliminary approval in the House after a debate that started in the morning and stretched into the evening.

Police identify man found dead in culvert

Neale Gilson, 69, died overnight Tuesday. Police found him dead in a culvert at Springfield Hospital Wednesday around 9 a.m after the Country Village Community Care Home, where he lived, reported him missing around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

A Connecticut man was arrested Monday night after fleeing an Interstate 91 traffic stop, resulting in a high-speed pursuit that ended in Springfield, Vermont.
